Andy Keeling

Andy grew up in rural South Staffordshire in the centre of England, known as 'The Creative County'. His love for boats started early when he visited Gas Street Basin in Birmingham on a school trip and bumped into Cliff Richard was was making a canal based film called "Take me High". Andy's uncle then built his own yacht when Andy was twelve and introduced him to sailing in Port Dinorwic in North Wales, by then he was hooked. Andy started work at an Architect's practice in Wolverhampton and has remained closely connected with the building industry but has been self employed for over 20 years giving him the opportunity to follow his interest in boating. In 1992 Andy got involved in the British Steel Challenge round the world yacht race and headed a project to fund a new lifeboat for the RNLI which was launched in 1995. Andy's canal boating experience has seen him cruising the Norfolk Broads along with the Oxford canal, the River Thames, the Stratford Canal, The River Avon, the Grand Union including the Leicester Line, the Birmingham & Worcester, the Llangollen Canal, the Calder & Hebble but mostly a considerable number of visits to the Leeds & Liverpool canal as Andy has been involved with Bear Boating since the company formation. Andy is a qualified Yachtmaster and RYA Instructor and is well known for instructing in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. He is an advanced level skier along with being a keen photographer and is the official photographer for Stoke City Ladies Football Club.
